Ashwagandha – What is it for – Its benefits

WHAT IS Ashwagandha ?

Ashwagandha ImageAshwagandha or Withania is a strong bush that can reach a height of 1.5m with small fruit like peas and inconspicuous green flowers. It is also known as Indian ginseng, although it can also be found on countries with mild weather.

Ashwagandha has properties that act like a very mild sedative. However, this plant goes beyond that. Its properties have made them an excellent adaptogen, which is why many countries are using it as natural medicine. Such is the case with eastern countries like China, India, and others, which have been using it for many years as traditional medicine.

Ashwagandha is also used as an enhancer supplement to fight adrenal fatigue (stress), helping the body to reduce its symptoms. It is also used as a revitalizer, which improves mental and physical resistance.

Contributions to Health

These herbs improve physical energy and athletic capacity, thus increasing defenses and preventing infections. They also help to increase sexual capacity and fertility.

A part of these benefits is that this plant restructures the immune system so that when it reaches a certain point, the organism itself can generate thyroid hormones, decreasing blood sugar levels, appetite and the consumption of gluten, which leads to note a decrease in cholesterol levels. We can also notice the positive effects generated on the endocrine, cardiovascular and central nervous systems.

Ashwagandha may also be used to fight issues related to emotions, psychological problems, metabolism and physiology due to its therapeutic versatility, its double effect as a sedative and its invigorating functions.

It helps with high blood pressure and memory problems. It makes falling asleep easier and mitigates insomnia. Ashwagandha can also be used as part of the treatment related to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), although its efficiency isn’t proven scientifically yet.

It invigorates when used and it is targeted towards the elderly, mostly, to prevent depression, regain vitality and fight asthenia.

Due to its anti-inflammatory and analgesic action, it has been demonstrated that this plant is excellent to reduce rheumatic pain and the inflammation produced by rheumatoid arthritis and in incipient osteoarthritis states.

“Clinical experiments indicate the existence of a possible inhibitor effect for the growth of tumor cells for certain kinds of cancer, such as breast and colon, but no conclusive information has been found thus far.”
